Internships

Our Internship program is part of our Leadership Development Track. Our goal is to develop healthy, effective leaders by engaging the whole person: Head, Heart, and Hands.

Head

The way we think affects the way we live. Therefore, it is imperative that we think rightly about who God is, who we are, and how we can most effectively minister to others. We will teach the head by establishing you in the essential theological truths of our faith, as well as helping you gain a first-hand knowledge and understanding of ministry.

Heart

Jesus made it clear that the fruit of our lives flows out of our heart. To cultivate Christ-like character, we must be careful to not gather information or truth in our heads only, but always connect it back to our heart. We will strive to shepherd the heart by partnering you with a one-on-one Mentor to meet with you regularly in an effort to know and care for you.

Hands

When God moves in us, He then moves through us. Growing as a leader involves loving and serving people, so we want to give you practical opportunities to engage in the mission of God at High Street. We will seek to empower the hands by providing you with a Field Supervisor to help you discover your gifts, abilities, and strengths, as well as develop your skills in the trenches of gospel ministry.

      • Youth

        Available: Summer/Fall Semester/Spring Semester

        2 Interns Per Session

        10 – 20 Hours a week

There is no better way to prepare the Church for the future than by investing in our youth. This generation is a passionate group of students who are trying to find their place in life, as well as a cause to live for. As a High Street Youth intern, you will have the opportunity to invest in the next generation by helping teenagers discover their identity and purpose in Christ.  This internship will equip leaders who have a desire to invest in the next generation.

Around 70% of young adults in America end up leaving the church after high school. This means there are numerous students who don’t see the purpose of the church once they transition out of the youth group. Our desire is to help students love the local church and see the bigger picture of ministry outside of High Street Youth. We desire to Love God, Serve People, and Reach the World alongside every generation in the church.

We believe that the key to helping students grow in Christ is through life-on-life discipleship. We do this primarily through Missional Communities (student small groups based on schools) and DNA Groups (groups of 3-4 students, based on gender, with an adult leader of same gender).

We are looking for leaders who desire to disciple young men and women by building deep and meaningful relationships that point to Christ.

You’ll be working with our Next Gen Pastor, Andrew Tate and High School Director/ Resident Justin Cole.

In his role at High Street, Andrew oversees Next Generation (Middle School, High School, College) and Small Groups. He also contributes through regular teaching and preaching in all areas of the ministry. His driving passion in ministry is making disciples and raising up young leaders. Andrew graduated with a BS in Pastoral Ministry from Baptist Bible College and is currently pursuing a Master of Theological Studies from Midwestern Seminary. Outside of ministry, he loves spending time with his family, traveling, and all things Ohio State. He and his wife Annette have been married since 1999 and have four children: Isaiah, Aidan, Ridge, and Blakeney.

Justin attended Baptist Bible College to obtain a (B.S.) degree in Pastoral Ministry. He started in ministry here at High Street as a youth intern in January of 2016, and became the head of our High School department later that August. Justin has a strong desire to build up the next generation through teaching and discipling the students in our youth ministry. When not in the church office, you can find him satisfying his coffee addiction at the Coffee Ethic in downtown Springfield, or cheering on his beloved Cleveland Indians or Cavaliers.

This internship requires a person who:

        • A member of High Street Baptist Church
        • Fully supports the vision of High Street
        • Fully supports the vision of High Street
        • Has an interest in sharing his/her life and the gospel with teens and their families

        Job Description

        • Meet with Andrew and Justin to review the weekend and plan the following week
        • Lead an High Street Youth Missional Community or DNA group
